For some of us, it’s a place to park the car. For others, it’s a jam-packed storage area, overflowing with countless items that you placed inside it because you didn’t know what else to do with it.

I’m talking, of course, about your garage. But if it’s gotten to the point where you can’t find any of your belongings, or you think you might actually want to park your car there for a change, it might be time for a clean out.

Here’s a simple checklist to make this overwhelming task more manageable.

Empty It Out

This might be the hardest part, but you’ll be glad you did it! Move everything in your garage out to your driveway to give you a clean slate to work from. If it helps, just clear out one shelf or area at a time, to break the job down into smaller steps.

Purge Unused Items

Before moving your belongings back into the garage, take advantage of this opportunity to get rid of anything that you haven’t used in a while. Throw out anything that’s worn-out or broken, and sell or donate the rest. If you don’t have time to take it all to the nearest charity, try listing it online as free to pick up.

Clean

When was the last time you cleaned your garage? If you’re like most of us, it might have been years ago. With all your belongings moved out, you can now reach those inaccessible spots that were concealed by junk.

Organize

Finally, assemble some bins, racks, hooks, and shelves and assign a designated spot for each of your belongings. Do your best to get everything off the floor and into a space where you can quickly find it again.

Don’t forget to contact JunkCo in Albuquerque to help you get rid of unwanted items. With these steps, your garage can quickly become a convenient, functional space again.
